About the Community Planning Board
The Torrey Pines Community Planning Board (TPCPB) is an officially recognized local advisory group of elected volunteers who evaluate issues affecting our community. The Board makes recommendations and communicates neighborhood concerns
to the City of San Diego and the Planning Department. The Planning Board operates in accordance with its Bylaws, San Diego City Council Policy 600-24, and the Brown Act, and bases its recommendations on the Torrey Pines Community Plan.
The Board comprises 16 representatives who live or work in the Torrey Pines Planning Area. The Planning Area lies west of I-5 and east of the City of Del Mar. It extends from I-805 in Sorrento Valley to Via de la Valle. It is in District 1 of the City of San Diego and includes Del Mar Heights, Del Mar Terrace, and the Sorrento Valley industrial areas.
Thirteen member seats are residential and three are business seats. The residential members represent three areas: Area 1 is north of Del Mar Heights Road. Area 2 is between Area 3 and Del Mar Heights Road, and Area 3 includes Del Mar Terrace, Sea Point, Sea Village and Sorrento Valley.
A business member is a business owner/operator from one of the community's areas zoned for business, such as Sorrento Valley, parts of Carmel Valley Road, and Del Mar Heights Village.
Representatives are elected for three year terms. Elections are held in March of each year. Planning Board members are elected by and from eligible members of the community. You are eligible if you are at least 18 years old and are affiliated with the community for at least 30 days as a property owner, resident, or business owner/operator in a business district. Community members are encouraged to vote and are required to show proof of eligibility, such as a driver's license or utility bill.
